Wolfsburg stalk Mutu
Monday 4 May, 2009

There are reports that German side Wolfsburg are trying to lure Adrian Mutu from Fiorentina.

Wolfsburg are the rising force in the Bundesliga and they raided Serie A last summer for Palermo defenders Andrea Barzagli and Cristian Zaccardo.

The Saxony side are expected to strengthen in the summer and have reportedly set their hearts on signing Mutu.

Fiorentina have no intention of selling their Romanian ace, but they know that he will look to leave should they fail to qualify for next season's Champions League.

Mutu has become a talismanic figure at the Stadio Artemio Franchi since arriving from Juventus in 2006.

Since the departure of Luca Toni to Bayern Munich, the 30-year-old has stepped into the main striker role and has been devastating alongside Alberto Gilardino this season.

However, there have been rumours that Mutu is keen for a new employer as the Viola have refused to grant him a pay rise.

The chance to play on Europe's biggest stage for Wolfsburg could be too tempting to refuse should Fiorentina lose out to Genoa in the battle for fourth place.
