Delio Rossi has publicly told Lazio to back him or sack him after two disastrous defeats on the trot.
“In the current atmosphere it’s better to speak as little as possible and our strength has always been cleaning our dirty laundry in private,” said the Coach.
Humiliating losses to Catania and Juventus showed a team in disarray, although some suggest the only reason Rossi hasn’t been fired is their pending Coppa Italia semi-final with Inter.
“If the club believes in its tactician, then there is no need to wait for the next result or qualification for the Coppa Italia. It’s like between husband and wife if you think she’s cheating on you, then you leave first.”
Rossi had asked for a proud performance last week, but instead his team was thrashed 5-2 by Juve.
“There is no point going back over the last two consecutive defeats, as we have said everything. The only thing I want to say is that if this is the way Lazio perform, then I am the first to put my future in doubt. There is no need for anyone else to do it for me.
“I repeat that in my view evaluations should be made at the end of the season when it’s all over and done with, but in this atmosphere I have to admit that isn’t always the case. I just have to isolate myself from all this and focus on the game.”
Lazio take on Palermo, who have also struggled psychologically since they lost out on all their objectives.
“I expect an answer from my players, as I don’t want the fans to remember these latest two games rather than the derby we won. Nestor Muslera returns in goal, as Marco Ballotta is injured.”
