Prandelli rides Viola luck
Sunday 3 May, 2009

Cesare Prandelli feels Fiorentina deserved their victory, but Giancarlo Camolese points out Torino's equaliser was incorrectly disallowed.

“We played our game and Toro didn't have a single shot on goal other than the final minutes,” said the Viola boss after a 1-0 win.

“We created a great deal and forced the Torino defence to spread out. I think it is also important to note that when leading we continued to attack.”

Juan Manuel Vargas scored his second goal in as many games and is enjoying the new tactic of three Trequartisti spread out behind Alberto Gilardino.

“All of a sudden he found his confidence and is giving the team a real boost,” added Prandelli.

The atmosphere in the Torino camp was decidedly tense after Franceschini had a last-gasp equaliser ruled offside.

“The squad held out well against a very strong Fiorentina side and you could not see there was a 30-point gap between the teams here today,” said Camolese.

“My lads deserve praise for pushing them all the way, especially as they did manage to score a goal.”

The Granata were particularly eager to impress as Monday is the 60th anniversary of the Superga air disaster that killed almost the entire Grande Torino squad.

“It would've been nice to commemorate Superga in another way, but if I know the Toro fans, then they will be happy with this performance.

“I was given nine points to save this side and when I arrived we were third from bottom, now we are fourth from the foot of the table.”

Next Sunday could be a decisive result for the relegation battle, as Torino go face-to-face with Bologna.

“It will be a very important match. We have to put this result aside and prepare for Bologna.”
