Saturday 3 May, 2008

Today's game between Treviso and Grosseto was abandoned after 20 minutes when a policewoman shot herself.

The match was in full swing with Grosseto leading 1-0 when a shot was heard in the Stadio Tenni.

The Treviso ultras were the ones who alerted the authorities and referee that something very serious had happened behind the curva where they were watching the game.

It emerged a policewoman attempted suicide by shooting herself just outside the stadium, where she was on duty that day.

A colleague who tried to stop her suffered a minor injury.

There were reports the 42-year-old had died, but the latest news from Treviso is that she is undergoing emergency surgery for a head wound.

The two teams and sets of fans were stunned by this tragic gesture and the match was abandoned. It will be replayed at a later date.
