Coach Davide Ballardini has asked to quit Palermo and President Maurizio Zamparini puts the blame on Lazio.
The Coach was on the verge of being sacked several times this season despite going close to Europa League qualification.
“Ballardini told me he wants to leave. I asked him to think it over until June 10 and if he still wants to terminate the contract, we will make him happy,” the President told Radio Radio TV.
“We will try to get him to see sense. After months of a united front in running the team and a fine season, he had never said anything.
“I am truly disappointed, afflicted and perturbed. I have never found myself in such a situation and experience tells me another club is involved.”
Lazio are looking for a new tactician after failing to reach an agreement with Delio Rossi and reports suggest the Olimpico is Ballardini’s destination.
“I would hate for [Lazio President Claudio] Lotito to have started this whole farce six weeks ago,” added Zamparini.
“I do not like this method. Lotito could easily have asked me and we could’ve struck a deal. I think Ballardini will reconsider and remain with us.
“In any case, no matter what the outcome, Rossi will not be our next Coach.”
