Uruguay have called three Serie A players for their 2010 World Cup qualifiers against Brazil and Venezuela.
Coach Oscar Washington Tabarez has named Palermo striker Edison Cavani, Catania forward Jorge Martinez and Reggina defender Carlos Valdez in his squad.
Uruguay welcome Brazil to Montevideo on June 6 and then take on Venezuela four days later.
Cavani is having by far his most prolific season, as the 22-year-old notched up 14 Serie A goals in 35 appearances almost triple last year’s tally of five.
Valdez has been in Italy since 2005 with Treviso and this is his second season as Reggina’s first choice centre-back.
Catania’s 26-year-old wide man Martinez has scored five goals in 29 games this season.
Uruguay are currently fifth in the South American section of qualifying for the 2010 World Cup on 17 points and, as things stand, would enter the play-off with the CONCACAF fourth-placed side.
