Milan: Adebayor or Toni?
Friday 2 May, 2008

Milan need a centre-forward and while Gennaro Gattuso calls for Luca Toni, Emmanuel Adebayor’s agent doesn’t deny rumours of interest.

According to the Corriere dello Sport newspaper, the Rossoneri have pinpointed the 24-year-old Arsenal star as the perfect man to complete their attack.

Adebayor particularly impressed in the two Champions League games in which Milan were eliminated earlier this season.

Problems in bringing Andriy Shevchenko back on loan from Chelsea in a cut price deal could send them towards the Gunners target man instead.

As teammate Mathieu Flamini is also on the verge of completing a free move to Milan, the club could opt for a double deal worth £17m.

On Monday evening agent Stephane Courbis was spotted in Milan and the denials weren’t exactly convincing.

"We have not received concrete offers. Obviously, it is logical that Emmanuel is demanded. I have to meet his club when the season ends to speak about his future.

"Today he is happy at Arsenal, he showed it on Monday, but you know football, everything goes very quickly.

"However, we will not talk before the season ends, as Arsenal are focused on trying to finish second."

These statements leave the door wide open for negotiations with Milan, especially if they succeed in reaching the Champions League.

There could be a battle within the ranks, though, as Gattuso has made it perfectly clear he’d prefer World Cup winning teammate Toni, currently at Bayern Munich.

“If I were in charge of Milan’s transfer policy then I would buy Toni,” said the midfielder. “We would really need a striker with his characteristics and let him leave Italy too soon.”
