Former Fiorentina and Rangers star Lorenzo Amoruso believes the Viola should have taken a more physical approach.
The UEFA Cup semi-final went to penalties after two legs and extra time without a goal and Rangers won out despite adopting defensive tactics throughout.
“Rangers just focused on defending and didn’t even try to get past the halfway line,” noted Amoruso on ViolaGol.
“With Christian Vieri partnering Giampaolo Pazzini they would have had more space to gather up the many loose balls that fell into the box.
“Pazzini is playing as a centre-forward, but that’s not his role and he doesn’t have Luca Toni’s physical characteristics.”
Under-21 international Pazzini has come under a lot of criticism for his performances this season, especially in the UEFA Cup where he failed to score a single goal.
“Cesare Prandelli puts tags on players like Pazzini and Vieri, saying they cannot play together, but that is just wrong,” continued Amoruso.
“Fiorentina should have taken more risks in Glasgow, when Rangers were decimated by injuries and bans. They didn’t do enough to win.
“Where was Adrian Mutu last night? He did nothing and needs to give more to the team. If his solo runs don’t work, then he should help everyone and not isolate himself to seek the show-stopping strike.
“I was very impressed with Riccardo Montolivo and thought he was the Man of the Match. He has improved immensely. The fans at the Stadio Franchi also surprised me, as they were fantastic.”
