To add injury to insult, Fiorentinas Christian Vieri damaged his quadriceps while blazing his penalty over the bar in last nights UEFA Cup semi-final.
The missed spot-kick rounded off a dire evening for the former Inter hitman, who spurned a series of chances to sink Rangers, including a golden opportunity just seconds after replacing Giampaolo Pazzini as a second-half substitute.
And things just get worse as it was reported today on Fiorentinas official website that the 34-year-old damaged his quadriceps in the process of striking his ill-fated penalty.
Cesare Prandelli is also nervously awaiting news on midfielder Marco Donadel, who limped off near the end of the first half after a seemingly innocuous clash with Kevin Thomson.
The ex-Milan man is set to undergo tests to ascertain the damage done to the muscles in his leg.
Both men are unlikely to feature in the Violas crucial trip to Cagliari this weekend as they try to keep hold of fourth spot and there are fears that Vieri's season is over.
