Barcelona boss Josep Guardiola dedicated his Champions League triumph to Italian football and Milan legend Paolo Maldini.
Guardiola's side outplayed Manchester United and lifted Europe's most prestigious trophy after a 2-0 win at the Stadio Olimpico.
In his post-match interview, Guardiola, who played for Brescia and Roma, thanked the host nation and took time to praise Maldini, who was jeered in his final home game.
I want to dedicate this win to Italian football and Maldini, who doesn't need to worry because the whole of Europe admires him, the young Coach told Rai Sport.
It is such a great joy and it has been a huge pleasure to win the Champions League in Rome. I want to give a big hug to all Italians.
We know that we have achieved something magnificent here and I would like to congratulate the whole club and the fans.
Guardiola invited former Brescia Coach Carlo Mazzone to last night's game as his guest of honour.
