Mutu wants Viola stay
Friday 23 May, 2008

Fiorentina hitman Adrian Mutu has sworn lyalty to the Viola amid interest from German outfit Schalke.

The Bundesliga side, who finished third this season and reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League, are reportedly courting the 29-year-old as they prepare for another European campaign.

“I don't know anything about an offer from Schalke,” admitted Mutu. “If Fiorentina have offered me to them I would be most unhappy, but I do not think this is the case.”

The Romanian has been in scintillating form this season, scoring 17 times in Serie A despite several injuries.

His goals were crucial in Fiorentina's UEFA Cup and League campaign, which ended in a semi-final and lucrative fourth place respectively.

“Schalke are a prestigious club,” the former Chelsea striker explained. “But I want to stay in Florence.”

Mutu is about to join his international teammates as they prepare for this summer's European Championship in Austria and Switzerland.
