Jose: 'My Madrid temptation'
Saturday 23 May, 2009

Jose Mourinho has confessed “Real Madrid are a little tempting, but I already turned them down once before.”

Inter were furious this week when it emerged the Spaniards had contacted Mourinho to ask for his availability should Florentino Perez win the Presidential election next month.

The tactician’s response, “I am 99.9 per cent sure I’ll stay on the Inter bench,” did not serve to calm the media storm.

“It is honest to say Real Madrid are a little tempting,” noted The Special One in today’s Press conference.

“I have a contract with Inter and don’t want to talk about this any more. I made a mistake in the past when I said I was 100 per cent sure, as there is always a 0.1 per cent that is in the hands of fate.

“Thankfully I said 99.9 per cent and not 99, otherwise there would have been even more controversy! I already turned down Real in the past. I had won the second League title with Chelsea and wanted to continue. I rejected it out of hand because I made the decision with my heart.”

Mourinho has said his ambition is to win the League in the big three of Europe and he’s two thirds of the way there after taking the Premiership and Scudetto.

The fact Real Madrid represent a temptation is underlined by the fact Mourinho immediately informed President Massimo Moratti of the approach.

“I do not hide things and so I told my President. It’s just what I’m like. It would have been far easier to say nothing, instead I spoke out. I like the same honesty from my players rather than reading it in the newspapers.”

Jose is taking a new approach for next weekend’s final match of the season with Atalanta, as he has decided not to sit on the bench.

“It will not be the traditional staff line-up, but rather [assistant Daniele] Bernazzani, [Fitness Coach Rui Filipe Da Cunha] Faria and [goalkeeping Coach De Almeida Louro] Silvino, as they deserve it too and it will have special meaning for them. It’s our way of thanking those who work in the background.

“This is not to disrespect Atalanta, but just the right way to give credit to those who work so hard during the week.”
