Walter Mazzarri has extended his contract with Sampdoria and will stay at the helm of the Blucerchiati until 2010.
The former Reggina boss has been linked with several clubs recently and there were concerns at Marassi whether he would respect his contract, which ran until 2009.
“My wedding is with Sampdoria. I had no other lover, all the rest counts for nothing,” insisted the Liguri boss.
“I am happy and I want to thank the Board, the President and the fans. I will work with enthusiasm to bring success to these colours.
“I am sad for the past misunderstandings, but President Riccardo Garrone and I have still got a great relationship, which is now stronger than before.”
Mazzarri is regarded has one of the most promising Italian tacticians and the 46-year-old boss has done a superb job this season, leading the Blucerchiati to UEFA Cup qualification.
“It is great that we are going to play European football next season. To see Antonio Cassano being selected for the Nazionale is also a great victory for all of us,” he concluded.
Director general Beppe Marotta is delighted to have tied Mazzarri's future with Doria and was the first to officially announce the deal.
“This is a great satisfaction for Sampdoria and gives us one more reason to do well and continue the work with him,” he said.
“We reached sixth spot and this is a great achievement for the team, considering that competition was really high.
“Judging the campaign of a team you have to look at three different aspects - how much did the team cost, the wages and the final result.
“Putting these three aspects together proves that we have had an extraordinary season,” insisted Marotta.
“For the future we have to underline the fact that Samp are first of all a team which must be careful with their budget and secondly the achievements on the pitch.” he concluded.
