Ballardini keeps options open
Thursday 22 May, 2008

Davide Ballardini isn’t sure whether he will stay on as Cagliari Coach next season after engineering the Rossoblu’s Great Escape.

The Sardinians live to fight another day in Serie A thanks to a remarkable end to the campaign masterminded by the former Pescara tactician.

But while he has the key to Cagliari, Ballardini is keeping his options open and even jokingly speculated about taking the Napoli post.

“I don’t know if I will stay at the Stadio Sant’Elia,” he revealed on Radio CRC.

“For the moment I have only discussed things briefly with the directors. To be honest I can see myself in a seaside city and if Edy Reja doesn’t want to stay at Napoli then I am available.”

Ballardini also discussed the secrets to this season’s success and Robert Acquafresca, who was Cagliari’s outstanding player.

“Hard work, having quality players available and keeping the morale of the squad up are the most important things,” the 44-year-old explained.

“Acquafresca was crucial. He is very young and has important qualities. If I were a President I would spend a good deal of money to get him and I think he has what it takes to play for a big team.”
