Orlandi's Granillo regrets
Wednesday 20 May, 2009

Reggina have been relegated and Nevio Orlandi blames their poor home record for leaving Serie A after seven years.

“We made so many mistakes. We didn’t do well at home, which was usually where we’d build the foundations for our safety.

“At the start of the season we also had some setbacks, but as time went on we didn’t really improve. We also lacked some quality and above all a bit of character. We are the only ones to blame.”

This evening’s 1-0 defeat at Lazio proved the final straw, as even if they win their final game and Bologna lose both, they have an inferior head-to-head record.

“We were unable to keep our shape and Lazio held the initiative,” explained the Coach. “Towards the end we tried to do something more, but it wasn’t enough. As usual, [Mauro] Zarate’s goal came from our mistake.”

The Amaranto had seemed to be staging another shock comeback in recent weeks, but the 5-0 thrashing at Sampdoria hit their confidence.

“The match with Samp really took the wind out of our sails, especially on a psychological level, but that must not be an alibi,” continued Orlandi.

“We have not spoken with President [Lillo] Foti. There was absolute silence in the locker room. As for my future, it’s not right to talk about this now.

“I have a strong bond with this club, but we will see later on. It is up to the club to sit down and start planning for Serie B, a process that unfortunately starts tomorrow.”
