Inter Ultras pitch in for Parma
Tuesday 20 May, 2008

A group of Inter Ultras have organised a whip-round to pay for the damage done to a nursery in Parma by Nerazzurri supporters last weekend.

Despite being banned from entering the Stadio Tardini for last Sunday’s title decider, thousands of Inter fans made the trip to Parma to show their support.

While the majority of the Beneamata faithful showed respect for the city, there were some violent scuffles with police and serious damage was done to the Fantasia nursery near the stadium.

However, a member of the Curva Nord supporters group, who is a resident of Parma, is trying to repair relations between the city and Inter.

“Tomorrow we will start a collection amongst us to repay Parma council for the work that they will have to do in repairing the damaged school,” he explained.

“We want to restate that we distance ourselves from the people who commit acts of violence and they have nothing to do with our organisation.”

Meanwhile, a police officer who was injured in clashes between fans and police has given an insight into events prior to Sunday’s game.

“A group of fans were trying to get through the gates of the Curva Sud without tickets,” he revealed.

“We were there to stop them and at that point began a thick hail of objects, especially sticks, stones and bottles.

“I was protected by my shield, but a big, full glass bottle still hit me. I felt a pain in my side and I was told to go to hospital.

“Was I scared? Fear is a human emotion that helps you to focus better in dangerous situations. It helps you to take more responsibility.

“Now I hope to get back well quickly and go back to work with my colleagues.”
