Novellino's Toro trauma
Thursday 1 May, 2008

Former Torino boss Walter Novellino has spoken of his regret at getting the Granata axe and compared the experience to “a missed penalty.”

The experienced tactician was given his marching orders by President Urbano Cairo on April 16 with his team’s Serie A status hanging in the balance after a 3-0 defeat against Genoa.

It was a painful fall from grace for the Coach who led Napoli to Serie A promotion in 2000 and repeated the feat with Piacenza the following season.

“I think that in 15 years you can make one mistake,” Novellino lamented on Radio Marte.

“Obviously I am referring to my spell at Torino that just finished. I would describe is as a missed penalty. Now a bit of a break can only do good.”

Torino take on Napoli this weekend in the battle of Novellino’s former sides and he knows who he will be supporting.

“I will be cheering on Toro because they are the weaker,” he explained.

“I really hope that Napoli reach the Intertoto Cup, which is a great opportunity if you have a big enough squad and know how to manage it, but I also want the Granata to stay up.”

Torino are just one point above the drop zone and their fate could be decided by Week 37’s six-pointer against Livorno.
