Adrian Mutu is hoping to realise a dream and lead Fiorentina to the UEFA Cup Final with victory over Rangers this evening.
The Tuscans threw everything at their Scottish opponents in the first leg of their semi-final at Ibrox last week but had to settle for a 0-0 draw.
Tonight a sold-out Stadio Artemio Franchi will roar Cesare Prandelli’s men as they look to reach their first European Final since 1989-90.
“To reach the Final would be an incredible achievement,” star man Mutu enthused.
“In football anything can happen, but we will give everything on the pitch.
“The important thing is to know you have done the best you can when you return to the dressing room.
“This is a game that can bring us close to the dream that we had at the start of this journey and it is one of the most important games of the season.”
Fiorentina are also fighting hard in the League to try and grab fourth spot to ensure that they aren’t involved in this competition next term.
“I can’t say that this one match alone is decisive for the campaign because we treat each game as decisive. That’s the only way that you can keep playing your best,” Mutu explained.
“We have a lot of games, but you don’t feel tired when you have the adrenaline of chasing a UEFA Cup Final. The excitement alone would allow us to play another 20 matches.”
Mutu is at risk of missing out on the Final at the City of Manchester Stadium, as he is a booking away from suspension.
“It’s not a problem for me that I am a one yellow away from a suspension,” the former Parma man insisted.
“I will give 100 per cent for the team because I’d rather watch us in the Final from home than us not make it.
“I played in the UEFA Cup semi-finals with Chelsea too and the Romania shirt is my first love, but I feel the greatest affection for Fiorentina for so many reasons.
“At the moment we are so united with the fans and we want to give everything as they push us on to do something great for the city. Florence and Fiorentina are one entity.”
