Reports from Romania suggest that Fiorentina veteran Christian Vieri is close to agreeing a deal with Rapid Bucharest.
The 34-year-old scored six goals in 26 outings for the Viola this term, but there have been doubts over his future after a disappointing second half of the campaign.
Vieri’s position at the Stadio Artemio Franchi was further damaged by a dismal performance in the UEFA Cup semi-final second leg, culminating in the missed penalty that ended Fiorentina’s dreams of a Final.
The former Inter marksman’s contract will expire this summer and a number of sides across Europe are said to be eyeing him as a free transfer swoop.
After links with Hull City last week, Romanian outfit Rapid Bucharest are the latest team in the frame for Vieri’s signature.
Rapid qualified for next season’s UEFA Cup after finishing third in the Liga 1 and are looking to strengthen their squad over the summer in anticipation of their European adventure.
While Vieri may be reluctant to relocate to Romania, he would be offered a deal of around £750,000 per season and the chance to make up for last term’s UEFA Cup disappointment.
