Sampdoria striker Giampaolo Pazzini has spoken of his delight at the reception given to him by Fiorentina fans on Sunday.
The 24-year-old Italy international spent four years with the Viola before leaving under a cloud in the January transfer window.
On moving to Sampdoria, Pazzini had said Fiorentina held a grudge against him and did not want him to do well.
When the former Atalanta youngster walked out at the Artemio Franchi on Sunday he was greeted with cheers rather than boos, though.
I will go forward along my path, but I have to admit, I never expected a reception of this kind, Pazzini said.
It means that I left some really beautiful memories here. It's all wonderful and emotional, even if, for me, this game was a little strange.
Fiorentina won the game 1-0 thanks to a goal from Alberto Gilardino, who took Pazzini's place in the Viola starting XI.
I want to stay in Genoa and I'll try to conquer a place in La Nazionale for the next World Cup, he concluded.
Pazzini has been excellent for Sampdoria this season, scoring 10 goals in his first 17 games for the club.
