Sensi 'understands' Roma protests
Saturday 16 May, 2009

Roma President Rosella Sensi admits “it hurts” to hear the fans hurl abuse at her and the team in this difficult time.

The squad was jeered during the warm-up and even a last-gasp 4-3 victory over Catania was not enough to stop a similar outpouring after the final whistle.

“At this moment the team needs to feel the fans by its side,” said President Sensi, who has been urged to sell up.

“I would like people to remember just what these lads have done for the club. There should be gratitude for all the joy they have given us over the years.”

This weekend Italpetroli confirmed in a statement they had received 'interest' from a Swiss conglomerate to take over a majority share in Roma.

In response numerous banners were present at the Stadio Olimpico calling for her to step aside.

“It is understandable that the fans are not satisfied with this campaign,” continued Sensi. “When things go badly everyone hopes for better. I understand and don't want to say anything else.

“Are the attacks personal? They may well be, but I think above all else they are upset with the results and on a human level I do understand them.

“As for the club's future, I speak only through official statements. I tell the truth and if you don't believe me then that's your problem.”

Coach Luciano Spalletti stated he would be the only one to decide whether he stays at Roma or leaves in the summer.

“I don't want to create controversy,” replied President Sensi. “I have great respect for the Coach and it is only right he decides his own future.”
