Vucinic seeks 'deserved Scudetto'
Friday 16 May, 2008

Roma marksman Mirko Vucinic believes the Scudetto would be a just reward for the Giallorossi’s efforts this term.

Inter seemed to be walking away with the title earlier in the campaign, but the capital club have chiselled away at their lead to set up a thrilling finale.

With the Nerazzurri now just a single point ahead, Roma will win the most unlikely Scudetto if they beat Catania and Inter fall against Parma.

“We have shown that we are a close-knit group that can play the best football in Europe,” Vucinic claimed.

“We never gave up, even when Inter were so far clear with an 11-point advantage that seemed unassailable.

“Even though things were hard we carried on fighting and chipping away at their lead. That's why we deserve the title.

“I hope that we win the Scudetto, but sadly it depends on Inter rather than us.”

Roma make the trip to Sicily without their fans after away support was banned for the Stadio Massimino clash.

“It really upsets us that our fans can’t follow us to Catania, but I’m sure that if we win they will turn up in their thousands to greet us at Fiumicino Airport,” Vucnic stated.

In training today, goalkeeper Alexander Doni seemed close to match-fitness despite spending the last few days nursing a shoulder injury.

Midfield wizard Rodrigo Taddei and defender Matteo Ferrari were the only absentees aside from injured talisman Francesco Totti.
