Experienced tactician Renzo Ulivieri has surprisingly claimed that Sampdoria boss Walter Mazzarri will be on the Napoli bench next term.
Seen as one of Italy’s most talented Coaches, Mazzarri has guided Samp to UEFA Cup qualification after heroically keeping Reggina afloat in Serie A for three consecutive seasons.
However, the Livorno native’s relationship with Blucerchiati President Riccardo Garrone has deteriorated and he has been linked with Lazio.
But Ulivieri, who has been a mentor figure for Mazzarri has tipped him for another destination.
“Walter has already been at Napoli as my assistant Coach and now he ready to take charge of the Azzurri,” he said on Kiss Kiss Napoli.
“Since he has been coaching on his own he has always done well in whatever League he has played in.”
The news will come as a blow to current Napoli tactician Edy Reja, who led the Azzurri back from Serie C and successfully consolidated their top-flight status this term.
Samp are expected to hold talks with Mazzarri after Doria’s final game of the season against Juventus on Saturday evening.
