Amoruso's Reggina ultimatum
Wednesday 14 May, 2008

Nicola Amoruso has been instrumental in Reggina’s survival, but warns he will go abroad unless the squad is strengthened.

“We had many difficulties this year, but managed to stay up anyway. I have been at Reggina for three years and nothing ever changes,” said the striker in the Gazzetta dello Sport.

“We stay in Serie A, but suffer to get there. I have a contract until 2010 and we’ll see what will be done. I shall speak to President Lillo Foti.

“I will evaluate what is best for me and for Reggina. There are various options both in Italy and abroad. It has been a real struggle all season and I think Foti agrees with me.”

Amoruso’s 10 goals have helped rescue the Amaranto from almost certain relegation, but he is tired of being the hero.

“I was forced to play as a centre-forward, whereas everyone knows that is not my position. Nevio Orlandi asked me to do it and I adapted, but I am not and do not feel myself to be a centre-forward. I repeat it yet again.”

He hinted in the Gazzetta that he would look for a move abroad, most likely to Britain, if Reggina did not improve the squad.

“The result at the end of the season was positive, although the campaign as a whole could’ve gone better. I scored at the right time and again got double figures, so I am satisfied with my performance.”
