Nedved explains extension
Wednesday 14 May, 2008

Juventus veteran Pavel Nedved has explained his reasons for signing a new contract with the Old Lady.

The 35-year-old had hinted that he may retire at the end of the season and initially failed to agree a deal to keep him in Turin for another year.

However, the Czech international put pen to paper yesterday evening to tie him to Juve until June 20, 2009.

“I am staying for lots of reasons, but most of all because I want to play again in the fascinating competition that is the Champions League ,” Nedved explained on the Juventus Channel.

“All of us want to win that together – we just have to think about where we have come from and what we done.

“Qualifying for the Champions League was a reward for all the sacrifices we have made and we are proud of it.

“My wife is very close to me and she also convinced me to continue this adventure that has been going on for seven years and has brought me such strong emotions.”

Nedved was given a warm welcome from his teammates when he turned up to training at Vinovo this morning.
