Roma hit by fan ban
Tuesday 13 May, 2008

Inter fans will be allowed to travel to Sunday’s crucial game at Parma, but Roma’s supporters are barred from visiting Catania.

Having seen their heroes cut Inter’s lead at the top to a single point, Roma fans had hoped to be allowed to cheer their team on at Catania’s Stadio Massimino.

However, the authorities have decided that the risk of violent scenes is too great to allow supporters from the Eternal City.

“It wouldn’t be appropriate to allow Roma fans to come and watch the game,” local council leader Giovanni Finazzo explained to La Sicilia.

“There are websites that are predicting clashes and we need to approach this thread prudently.”

While the news is likely to be met with anger from the Giallorossi’s followers, the Catania police hailed the decision.

“It’s a choice that reduces the problems posed to the forces of law and order,” police chief Michele Capomacchia enthused.

“We will still be alert to meet the needs of the large number of fans expected to attend and the officers will be prepared.”

Meanwhile, Inter’s fans will be allowed to watch their side at the Stadio Tardini without any ticketing restrictions.
