Inter midfielder Maniche has missed out on a place in Luiz Felipe Scolaris 23-man Portugal squad for Euro 2008.
The 30-year-old was one of the stars of the show four years ago and made a significant contribution at World Cup 2006.
But despite featuring in eight of Portugals qualification games, Maniche has missed the cut.
The former Chelsea man hasnt been able to command a regular place in the Inter line-up since arriving on loan from Atletico Madrid and has paid the price for warming the bench.
There was a place for Maniches brother Jorge Ribeiro, who plays in defence for Boavista.
The Nerazzurri will however be watching Portugals progress closely as they are reportedly considering a vast bid for Porto forward Ricardo Quaresma.
Portugal are expected to progress from Group A where they will face Switzerland, Czech Republic and Turkey.
