Adriano was 'close to suicide'
Tuesday 13 May, 2008

Inter outcast Adriano considered suicide at his lowest ebb with the Nerazzurri, according to the striking star’s mother.

L’Imperatore’s time at San Siro has been characterised by extreme highs and lows and his prolific spell after returning from loan at Parma in 2004 faded in the memory during a miserable 2007.

Adri’s mental state became fragile after the death of his father from a heart condition and his mother Rosilda has revealed the full extent of his troubles.

“He was depressed and had difficult times after his father’s death and other things,” she told Bandeirantes. “He even thought about killing himself.

“The Press surrounded our house and their criticism really got him down.

“He was quite young when he went to play in Italy and he felt alone there without anyone close to him.”

Adriano has enjoyed a renaissance after being sent on loan to Brazilian side Sao Paulo and has found the net 15 times in 26 games.

Tomorrow his side take on Fluminese in the quarter-finals of the Copa Libertadores and the 26-year-old will look to continue his impressive form in the hope of attracting some high-profile suitors when his loan expires this summer.
