Clarence Seedorf has voiced his frustration after Milan relinquished fourth place, but hopes that Torino can do the Rossoneri a favour on Sunday.
Last weekend was demoralising for the world champions as they were beaten at Napoli while Fiorentina beat Parma.
It was a bitter blow after fighting so hard to capture the all-important fourth Champions League qualification spot with victory over Inter in Week 36.
“I’m more disappointed than angry,” Seedorf insisted. “We had our destiny in our own hands – we could have secured fourth place, but we didn’t do that.
“I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – I have never seen a more competitive championship. There are 10 or 12 teams that can win against anyone at home and that has never been the case before.”
Milan now need to hope that Fiorentina slip up against Torino, who have nothing to play for, and must focus on picking up maximum points against seventh-placed Udinese at San Siro.
“We will evaluate the situation at the end,” Seedorf stated. “Torino must do their duty and we are convinced that they will.
“It is not for us that they must do their bit because we have damaged our own cause, it is for the good of Italian football as a whole.”
