Luis Figo wants to continue his career for one more season and hopes to do it with an Inter jersey.
When the Portuguese legend extended his contract by another year last summer, the plan was to retire in 2008 and take on a desk job at the club.
However, following a series of injury problems, Figo insists there has been a change of heart.
“I don’t know what my future will be yet, but I don’t want to end it on the treatment table. I would like to continue for another year,” he told the official Inter website.
“Considering I owe six months of football to Inter, I hope to carry on here.”
Figo has barely featured since fracturing a bone in his foot during a clash with Pavel Nedved on November 4, in all putting together 17 appearances this season.
“I was welcomed with open arms in Milan and am happy that we have been able to give the fans such joy they were waiting for over many years.”
However, there was also a curious denial from Figo, who was infuriated by a story that appeared in newspaper Libero.
The report alleged Figo had accidentally run over a stray black cat that had been wandering around the Appiano Gentile training ground for some months.
“It is absolutely not true. I want an apology, otherwise I will be forced to take legal action.”
