Romania welcome Mutu ban
Saturday 10 May, 2008

Romania Coach Victor Piturca is the only person happy to see Adrian Mutu receive a two-match ban.

“He is tired after a long and stressful season, so it will be good to allow him a little time to rest and recuperate,” Piturca told French newspaper L’Equipe.

Fiorentina star Mutu was handed the suspension that will rule him out for the rest of the club season.

He was sent off for sarcastically applauding the referee and hurling abuse at the official during last week’s 2-1 defeat at Cagliari.

Mutu’s absence is a bitter blow to a side battling for a place in the Champions League, but his country couldn’t be happier.

Romania are in Italy’s group for Euro 2008 along with France and Holland. Their opening game is against Les Bleus in Zurich on June 9.

Mutu’s men take on the Azzurri on June 13.
