Spalletti requests Siena surprise
Saturday 10 May, 2008

Luciano Spalletti is playing down Roma’s “one per cent” chances of snatching the Scudetto off Inter, but that doesn’t mean he won’t try.

The Giallorossi are three points off leaders Inter, but one victory in the remaining games against Siena and Parma will be enough to mathematically seal it for Roberto Mancini’s men.

“We will try to get our result, then take into consideration the result at San Siro,” explained Spalletti in today’s Press Conference.

“It would be wrong of us to put our hands up now. In the past there have been many surprised and the worst regret would be not taking advantage of situations. Can you imagine what would happen if Inter slipped up and we failed to beat Atalanta?”

There was almost a similar situation last Sunday, as Roma only kicked into gear to defeat Sampdoria 3-0 after news filtered through that Inter were losing the Milan derby.

The fixture list is not as tough with the leaders this weekend, even though Siena have already beaten Roma and Juventus this season.

“We have a one per cent chance of winning the Scudetto. Inter are stronger than Siena and have everything needed to win, but we cannot rule out surprises.

“There is no point looking back to matches where we could have done better. At the end of the day it all evens out.”

The rivalry between these two clubs won’t stop here, as on May 24 there will be the Coppa Italia Final, now a one-off game at the Stadio Olimpico.

“We have a 50-50 chance, although there is the bonus of playing in front of our own fans,” added Spalletti ahead of the fourth consecutive Roma-Inter Final.

“I hope it will be a celebration, as in that game we can prove what we can really do.”

Matteo Ferrari is back in the side, albeit most likely on the bench, while Francesco Totti and Rodrigo Taddei continue treatment.
