Spalletti on Inter's trail
Sunday 9 March, 2008

Luciano Spalletti knows today’s win in Naples could be crucial, although time is running out to catch Inter.

The 2-0 victory at the San Paolo – where the Nerazzurri fell to their first defeat of the campaign last week – maintained the gap at six points.

“I saw Inter beat Reggina last night and it wasn’t their best performance, but their character remains,” noted the Coach.

“Unfortunately the difference in points is stable with fewer games in front of us.”

Many thought Napoli would open and close the Scudetto race in the space of a week, but they couldn’t replicate their performance.

“My lads stepped on to the field with the right attitude and were very aware of the dangers. With Simone Perrotta’s great goal it made the whole game easier for us and these are very important points against an excellent Napoli.

“My team deserved the win and the early goal allowed us to hit them on the break. We could have scored a third.”

Napoli tactician Edy Reja did not argue with the result at the Stadio San Paolo.

“Roma are in great shape. We showed some quality too, but were unable to score. The Giallorossi were solid in defence and it was difficult to find space.”
