Julio Cesar saves the day
Saturday 8 March, 2008

Once again Julio Cesar was Man of the Match and admitted Inter “did not play the best football” this evening.

“I am happy because I was able to help the team on a very special day,” he said as the centenary celebrations kicked off with a 2-0 victory over Reggina.

“We did not play our best football, but it was important to get back to a victory.”

The Nerazzurri were without a Serie A win in three and were fresh from their first defeat of the season against Napoli, which reduced their lead to six points.

The goalkeeper was forced into a series of spectacular and decisive saves to deny Reggina another shock result.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic marked his comeback from injury by converting a debatable penalty before Nicolas Burdisso’s header.

Julio Cesar hopes he can maintain this incredible level of form going into Tuesday’s Champions League clash with Liverpool.

“We know it won’t be easy and that we will have to run ourselves ragged. Our fans have sold out San Siro and have so much faith in us,” continued the Brazilian.

“We too are aware of our strength and will play the game to win, then we’ll see what happens.”

Liverpool won the first leg 2-0 at Anfield, so the Nerazzurri need to win at least by the same scoreline just to force extra time.
