Cesare Prandelli has reassured Fiorentina fans he will stay at the club “while the Della Valle family are in charge.”
The Coach admitted he was reconsidering his future after the UEFA Cup elimination at the hands of Ajax and the subsequent criticism.
“I said that emotionally I was not in a good way after that game, because for a long time there has been a section of the media that is hyper-critical and I really won’t stand for it,” he clarified.
“I don’t want to leave Florence. I want to stay here as long as the current administration is in charge. If I were a Fiorentina fan, I’d be proud of what we have achieved over the last few years. Sometimes we damage ourselves with this attitude.”
The Tuscans were demoted to Serie C2 when previous President Vittorio Cecchi Gori’s club went bankrupt, but the Della Valle brothers have taken the side back into the Champions League.
They hope to consolidate fourth place today when welcoming Palermo, especially as rivals Genoa lost to Inter on Saturday and Roma were held 1-1 by Udinese.
“Palermo will have prepared for this match very carefully and are no doubt extremely concentrated,” continued Prandelli.
“We do have a plan to limit [Fabio] Liverani, but clearly he is very intelligent and knows how to escape his marker.
“The lads have arrived at this appointment with less weighing on their shoulders. We realise it will be difficult, because Palermo are a great side who want to get back on track.”
Zdravko Kuzmanovic and long-term absentee Mario Alberto Santana are out of contention.
Fiorentina squad: Almiron, Bonazzoli, Comotto, Dainelli, Donadel, Frey, Gamberini, Gilardino, Gobbi, Jorgensen, Jovetic, Kroldrup, Melo, Montolivo, Mutu, Pasqual, Semioli, Storari, Zauri.
