Carlo Ancelotti “hit the mute button” when asked to reply to Jose Mourinho and is reinventing David Beckham as a trequartista.
“I think it is right to lower the volume on this shouting match. In fact, I’m going to hit the mute button completely and just won’t talk about it,” said the Rossoneri tactician.
“I can’t say he doesn’t deserve a response, as that will only fire up more controversy, so I’m just going to say nothing.”
Mourinho infuriated half of Serie A this week when he raged for seven minutes in a Press conference on the media’s anti-Inter stance and the fact Juve, Roma and Milan would ‘end the season without a trophy.’
That may well be true, as Ancelotti’s men are out of the Coppa Italia, UEFA Cup and under pressure for third place in Serie A.
“I don’t know who will win the Scudetto, but right now we certainly can’t be thinking about that. If someone gives us a hand to think about it, then they’re welcome, but it is not something we can address today.
“Our objective is third place and in terms of the trophy cabinet that may not count for much, but it is our primary aim this season and could lay the foundations for future success.
“I don’t like comparisons with Inter. We want to carry on down our own path and for now third place is in our hands. We’ll try to secure it and eventually look to something more.”
Milan have already confirmed that failure to finish third will see Ancelotti removed from his job. He has plenty of suitors, as transfer guru Ernesto Bronzetti believes he’ll end up at Real Madrid.
“Ernesto is a friend, so he won’t mind if I say he’s wrong.”
Clarence Seedorf must pass a late fitness test, so the Coach is looking to intriguing alternatives against Atalanta.
“If he doesn’t make it, then one out of [Andrea] Pirlo or Beckham will be the trequartista and we’ll move [Marek] Jankulovski into midfield.”
It is a new twist for Beckham, who has reportedly agreed a deal to stay at San Siro until the end of the season on loan from LA Galaxy thanks to a £2m pay cut.
“The resolution of the Beckham situation will give him certain advantages, as he really wants to remain with Milan and this long-term view could make him even more motivated to do well.
“We are in an emergency situation and little has changed compared to last week, but after Sunday’s game we will make huge leaps forward because we’ll be able to focus only on training for one match per week.”
