Inter Coach Roberto Mancini has been compared to legendary Nerazzurri boss Helenio Herrera by club President Massimo Moratti.
Herrera presided over the greatest period in the Beneamata's history, leading them to three Scudetti and back-to-back European Cup victories in the 1960s.
Mancio, who joined the Biscione in 2004, has won two consecutive Serie A championships but is yet to deliver any European honours at the Via Durini club.
Inter face Liverpool in the last 16 of the Champions League on March 11 with a 2-0 deficit to make up from the away leg at Anfield.
Speaking ahead of the Nerazzurri's centenary celebrations next week, Moratti was full of praise for the former Lazio tactician.
Mancini is smoothing out the rough edges and can remain at Inter for a long time. He came to this club to be a protagonist like Herrera, enthused the Inter chief.
He has a contagious determination. With age and experience on his side he is able to see things with a clarity others don't have.
I like how he works and with him I always have a good feeling, the oil baron concluded.
The 62-year-old still believes all is not lost for the Beneamata in Europe, citing the achievement of La Grande Inter against the Reds in 1965.
The Nerazzurri beat Liverpool 3-0 at San Siro having lost 3-1 on Merseyside en-route to their second successive European Cup triumph.
Moratti insists that the club's history and its fans can help the Biscione to another famous victory against the English team.
The Liverpool of Rafael Benitez has important international experience, but I believe that our squad deserves the faith of the public, explained Moratti.
Along with our centenary celebrations, that will help them go into this challenge with 100 years of passion.
