Serie B: March review
Tuesday 31 March, 2009
Ex-Roma star Abel Balbo made the worst possible start to his coaching career at Treviso. Paul Watson rounds up the heroes and villains in Serie B

THE GOOD…
Parma: It's not easy being favourites, but Parma have found their stride and are pushing for a return to the top flight. The Ducali demolished Triestina and Empoli and are hot on Bari's heels. It seems the Emilia-Romagna outfit's spell in purgatory will be a short one.

THE BAD…
Brescia: When will Brescia stop underachieving? The Rondinelle's long-suffering fans see their side as a Serie A outfit, but they have been stuck in limbo lately. This month has seen the Biancoazzurri's automatic promotion hopes evaporate and even a play-off place is doubtful.

THE UGLY…
Treviso: In Serie A as recently as 2005-06, Treviso are on the brink of the Lega Pro. A punch-drunk side are once again being led by the ineffective Luca Gotti after the bizarre Abel Balbo reign and have it all to do if they are to beat the drop.

STAR OF THE SHOW
McDonald Mariga (Parma): The Kenyan midfielder is a Serie A star in the making. Mariga has found an eye for goal as well as incisive assists and is reportedly a target for Milan.

AXED
Abel Balbo (Treviso): The Argentine's first coaching post ended in farce. Having quit on his second day in the job after feeling unwelcome, Balbo returned reluctantly only to pick up one point in four games and resign for good.

Ezio Rossi (Grosseto):
Rossi's small town adventure ended in disappointment. Things turned sour after two wins, a draw and four defeats and a loss to former side Treviso put the final nail in the coffin.
