Francesco Totti is out of Roma’s quarter-final with Manchester United and possibly the second leg too with a thigh strain.
The captain had been struggling with a recurring knee problem this month and played in the 1-1 draw against Cagliari on Saturday with strapping to the area.
However, he was spotted clutching the back of his left thigh several times, although he continued to play until the final whistle.
The club has confirmed Totti has been diagnosed with a muscular strain and is out of Tuesday’s Champions League clash with United.
If the extent of the injury is confirmed, there is the possibility he could also be ruled out of the second leg at Old Trafford on April 9.
It is also a heavy blow for the Giallorossi’s Scudetto ambitions, as they are still four points behind Inter.
Meanwhile, the referee for the first leg at the Stadio Olimpico has been assigned by UEFA.
It is Belgian Frank De Bleeckere, the same official who sent off Marco Materazzi for two very harsh bookings in the first leg of Inter’s tie with Liverpool.
