Patrick Vieira has pledged to fight for his place in the Inter squad, but admits “it depends on what the club wants to do with me.”
The Frenchman has struggled with injury for the last two seasons and was then dropped by Jose Mourinho after mistakes in the second leg of the Champions League tie with Manchester United.
“It is down to me to work hard so that I can get back to my best form,” he told Telefoot in France.
“I am not going to cry over spilt milk or feel self-pity, as at this time I just need to talk less and work harder.
“I have a contract with Inter until 2010 and want to respect it, as I feel very close to this side. However, we must wait and see, as it depends on what the club wants to do with me.”
The former Arsenal and Juventus man turns 33 in June and has been with the Nerazzurri since the summer of 2006.
This season he has managed only 17 appearances in all competition for a total of 978 minutes of football.
