Alberto Aquilani has assured Roma fans that he is happy to sign a contract extension “in the next few days.”
There has been mounting speculation over the midfielder’s future after interest from Juventus and Inter.
The new deal was delayed repeatedly and supporters began to grow irritable with the hometown hero, but the situation seems to be coming to a positive conclusion.
“I am happy at Roma, I am a fan of this club and in the next few days we should make it official,” he told Sky Sport 24.
“As far as I am concerned, the terms are fine and we have an agreement. There are no problems.”
The real issue troubling Aquilani now is his persistent ankle injury that is still nowhere near resolved.
“Unfortunately the only cure at the moment is to rest. Thankfully I will not require surgery, but these problems caused by the sprain mean I can’t run.
“I’ve been dragging this injury on for a month and a half, whereas at the start we all felt it was nothing much to worry about. I’ve been told I have to rest and let it heal, as if I put pressure on then it will never fully recover.
“It is incredible pain and I can’t just grit my teeth and bear it. I did that against Arsenal, which was a decisive match for us, but it set me back and now I don’t know when I will be able to play.
“There’s no point crying over it, as unfortunately there is nothing I can do and I must be patient.”
