Former Inter and Lazio boss Alberto Zaccheroni has analysed the leaders ahead of tonight’s clash. “The Nerazzurri have never been spectacular.”
The fate of the Scudetto could rest on today’s results, as Roma travel to Cagliari and the leaders visit the Olimpico with a four-point advantage.
“Today Inter must resolve some problems and they can only do that in one way by winning. That’s not as simple now as it was before,” wrote Zac in newspaper La Nazione.
“The team has lost a bit of the belief that was so important throughout the first part of this season.”
Roberto Mancini’s men have lost two of the last five Serie A games, also drawing 1-1 away to Genoa.
However, Zaccheroni believes there are some underlying issues that have been present since the start of Mancio’s tenure.
“This Inter has never been spectacular, but it was solid in physique and mentality. Now, however, the legs of crucial players like Zlatan Ibrahimovic (the creativity) and Esteban Cambiasso (the tactical equilibrium) are under strain and the mind is shaken by the sudden Champions League exit.”
Zac also turned his gaze on title contenders Roma, who he insists lacked only the mentality of a giant to succeed.
“Roma have not always had their minds on the job when facing the smaller clubs. It is difficult to always be concentrated, especially if a Serie A match is against an unfancied side straight after you have played Real Madrid.
“It is no coincidence that they lost precious points against Siena and Livorno. That was the sign they were lacking the right concentration.”
