Fabio Cannavaro’s agent rules out a return to Napoli, but Milan, Tottenham and Manchester City are interested in the free agent.
The veteran defender’s £4m per year contract with Real Madrid expires at the end of the season and it is unlikely that it will be renewed, so he will be available on a Bosman.
He had always said he wanted a return to his hometown club, where he started his career and where his younger brother Paolo also plays, but those plans seem to have been abandoned.
“Fabio and Napoli have undertaken different paths,” explained agent Enrico Fedele.
“He is in love with his home town, but this club has chosen an alternative approach.”
It is reported in the Daily Mirror that Premier League teams Tottenham and Manchester City are interested in swooping for the 2006 Ballon d’Or winner.
Another option may be more suited to the 35-year-old, who has caught the eye of Milan as a replacement for Paolo Maldini.
Carlo Ancelotti confirmed the club is seeking a new central defender following Maldini’s retirement and Canna would certainly bring the experience they are looking for.
He would be given the task of aiding newcomer Thiago Silva in settling in to Serie A football.
This evening Cannavaro is set to earn his 123rd cap for Italy against Montenegro in a World Cup qualifier, only three fewer than Maldini’s all-time record.
