Madrid tempt Ancelotti
Thursday 26 March, 2009

Real Madrid presidential candidate Florentino Perez will give Carlo Ancelotti total control of football matters if he joins the Spanish giants this summer.

Perez is a keen admirer of Ancelotti and looks set to include him in his manifesto to lure voters to his campaign for the Madrid presidency.

The election is due to take place on July 5 and Perez, who presided over the club in the galacticos era between 2000 and 2006, is expected to win.

Perez believes he can tempt Ancelotti away from Milan with an English style management role at Madrid.

According to the Spanish Press, under Perez, Ancelotti would face no interference from the board or director of football. He alone would make all the football decisions at the club.

Ancelotti remains tied to Milan, though, where he is the second longest serving trainer in the club's history behind the great Nereo Rocco.

However, the former Juventus and Parma Coach is said to be ready for a change of scenery, especially as Milan are about to scale down their budget.

Silvio Berlusconi and Adriano Galliani, who are very hands on at Milan, have also frequently undermined Ancelotti.

Inter Coach Jose Mourinho baited Ancelotti last week, saying that he rarely picks the Milan team, insinuating that he is Berlusconi and Galliani's puppet.

Therefore, the opportunity to have unchecked power at a great club like Madrid would be extremely attractive to Ancelotti.

The 55-year-old tactician is also in the running for the Chelsea job, which should become available again if Guus Hiddink leaves at the end of the season.

Ancelotti is widely regarded as one of the best tactical minds in the business, having won two Champions League titles, a Club World Cup and Scudetto with Milan.
