Maurizio Zamparini has fired Francesco Guidolin and brought back Stefano Colantuono, but he’s still not satisfied. “We’re the worst team in Serie A.”
The President has been vitriolic in his public criticism of the team and tacticians and explained why he took this course of action.
“Palermo are coming off a difficult moment and I felt the need to intervene,” he told Radio Kiss Kiss.
“The results speak for themselves, as we have picked up 11 points in as many games. In the last five matches it’s just two points.
“It was mathematics that fired Guidolin, not me… I am worried, as I really did not expect at the start of the season to be battling against relegation.
“Sometimes this happens when you lack character. The team has never believed in its own potential, then injuries made the situation worse.”
The Rosanero are in 12th place on 36 points nine clear of the drop zone although Zamparini sees only the darkest vision.
“Palermo are currently the worst team in Serie A. We will try to rain on Napoli’s parade this week, although it won’t be at all easy to take them on.
“I really like Napoli’s attitude because, unlike us, they always battle on the field. I think it’s 80 per cent sure they’ll beat us.”
Meanwhile, the President has been deferred to the disciplinary commission for his comments after the loss to Parma.
He had suggested the club was “disrespected and trampled on” by the authorities.
