Barzagli feels Guidolin guilt
Tuesday 25 March, 2008

Palermo defender Andrea Barzagli has spoken of his disappointment at the sacking of Coach Francesco Guidolin.

Guidolin was given his marching orders after the Sicilians’ 3-2 home defeat against Genoa last weekend.

The Rosanero are languishing in 12th place and aren’t entirely free of the relegation battle as Stefano Colantuono – who was dismissed in November with the side in sixth – returns to the helm.

“The whole squad was very close to Guidolin, just as we are to Colantuono,” Barzagli explained. “It has been a disappointing year, but it is mostly our fault as players.

“It’s not always best to change Coach, but it is the President who should decide where his money goes.

“I hope that the change will give us a boost because we are struggling and we need to pick up some points quickly to get away from the relegation zone.”

There is speculation that these are Barzagli’s last eight games at the Stadio Renzo Barbera as he is linked with a move to one of the peninsula’s giants, but the Azzurri star isn’t ready to think about that yet.

“I’m gutted with the way this campaign has gone and my future is the last thing on my mind now,” he concluded.
