Rossi promises Inter resistance
Tuesday 25 March, 2008

Many Lazio fans will be hoping their side lose to Inter this weekend to stall Roma’s title bid, but Coach Delio Rossi has no intention of rolling over.

The majority of Lazio’s faithful are watching the Scudetto race with increasing trepidation, as Roma close the gap on leaders Inter.

Should the Biancocelesti trip up Roberto Mancini’s men this weekend, Lazio’s city rivals could move within a point of the Nerazzurri.

Rossi’s men also face Inter in the Coppa Italia semi-finals and there are suggestions on fans’ forums that the Aquile should wave the white flag this weekend and focus on Cup glory instead.

“Would we do an exchange with Inter and lose this game on purpose to win the Coppa Italia semi-final? Anyone who would suggest that has nothing to do with Lazio – these discussions have no place,” Rossi raged in Il Romanista.

“When this team plays, we have to think about winning and not losing. I can’t understand anyone who is hoping for a defeat.

“Of course they are stronger than us, but we will give our all and it would be absurd to do anything else.

“The game against Inter is an important game against a very strong side, but we are going to take them on.

“We have fought against everyone and I don’t see why we should do any differently against Inter.”
