Napoli looking to Saviola
Monday 24 March, 2008

Napoli’s love affair with Argentine No 10s may continue in the summer after they were linked with Javier Saviola.

The South American is set to leave Real Madrid after rarely featuring for the Spanish champions since his summer switch from rivals Barcelona.

Juventus have also recently been associated with him as a possible alternative to Werder Bremen’s Diego, but the Azzurri are understood to be keen too.

Despite already having Ezequiel Lavezzi at their disposal, San Paolo transfer chief Pierpaolo Marino is monitoring Saviola’s position.

However, sources close to the Neapolitan club suggest that the proposed move would come with a number of financial hurdles to overcome.

Although Real’s asking price for the 26-year-old should be more than affordable for owner Aurelio De Laurentiis, the player’s wage demands may prove problematic.

Napoli, of course, won their only two Scudetti in 1987 and 1990 thanks to the inspirational performances of Diego Armando Maradona.
