Udinese blame 'offensive' ref
Sunday 22 March, 2009

Udinese are livid at the referee after their 2-0 defeat in Genoa. “We no longer want Nicola Ayroldi in our games. His behaviour offended our efforts.”

The Friulani were furious with the overall performance of the official, who denied them a decent penalty shout moments before Genoa's opener, did not give the advantage with Alexis Sanchez clear on goal and then sent off Sanchez for sarcastically applauding his decision.

“I have never talked about referees, but I am breaking my own code of conduct today,” slammed director general Pietro Leonardi.

“Evidently with Ayroldi we don't have the best of luck. We would prefer not to have him assigned to our games any more, as his presence makes us irritable.

“His behaviour and reading of the game today offended our efforts.”

There is a precedent, as Udinese were also unhappy with the way Ayroldi officiated in their game with Napoli.

“We have been shown a total lack of respect. The referee damaged us from start to finish with one-way bookings, an incredible penalty not given and a player stopped when clear on goal for a free kick that had happened ages beforehand.

“This isn't the first time Ayroldi has done this to us, so I'd prefer he was no longer assigned to our matches. Out of respect for my players, I cannot sit in silence.”
