Maurizio Zamparini insists he won't fire Davide Ballardini after the derby debacle, while Walter Zenga explains why Catania triumphed.
The Barbera crowd was furious after the 4-0 thrashing at the hands of their Sicilian rivals, fuelling reports Palermo were ready to sack Coach Ballardini.
I have no intention of firing Ballardini, assured trigger-happy President Zamparini.
We lost badly. This is the worst moment of my time at Palermo. Now the players will go into a pre-match training camp and that is all there is to be said.
Zenga beat Ballardini 4-0, this is the truth. Now we have to roll our sleeves up and work hard.
The scoreline is rather flattering to the Elefantini, as Palermo had Mark Bresciano sent off after just 16 minutes and Albano Bizzarri performed several crucial saves on Edison Cavani, Fabrizio Miccoli and Federico Balzaretti.
It remains a stunning victory for Catania boss Zenga, as the club had not won on its travels in Serie A since April 2007.
The result came from concentration and a professional approach, said Zenga. The lads did well to play with great focus.
We are happy for the fans and the team, though admittedly the 4-0 scoreline is a bit harsh. It even becomes difficult to salute the opponents after the final whistle in this situation.
I was irritated to keep hearing we hadn't won on our travels in two years, even if my own first away game was a year ago losing here in Palermo.
