The road is long, says Di Carlo
Monday 16 March, 2009

Chievo Coach Mimmo Di Carlo insists his side still have work to do if they are to survive their first season back in Serie A.

The Flying Donkeys leapt out of the relegation zone at the weekend with an impressive 3-0 victory over Lazio in Rome.

“I knew our moment would arrive sooner or later,” Di Carlo told Radio Anch'io Sport. “We worked hard and it's now bearing fruit.

“We know that we have to fight until the very end, the road is still long, but this group has always had the right spirit.

“Against Lazio we did everything in the best way possible, but they were not at their best,” Di Carlo added.

The former Parma tactician, who took over from Giuseppe Iachini in November, then explained what he has changed at Chievo.

“I looked to give the lads more security,” he said. “We now have a good athletic condition, but above all we have the support of a great club.

“They are a group that follow me and believe in my work. We hope to go into the final day of the season with survival already secured.”

Chievo are now three points clear of the drop zone and return to action this weekend when they welcome Palermo to the Bentegodi.
